one SI MAG 12" vs. two AA Assassin 12"

RIght now I have dual Assassin 12's in 3.5 ft^3 @ 32Hz powered by a Phoenix Gold Xenon x600.1 I'm looking to save space but keep similar levels of output and sound quality.

How would a Mag off 800W compare to two Assassins?

What about other subs (less expensive)? (maybe Type R, L7, L5, CVX, ???)

Thanks for any input, I'd probably want to keep the box to around 2 ft^3 or less (ported), and I need a 12" sub (no room for bigger).

Also, I should note that the Mag is kinda (quite a bit) out of my price range. I'd much rather spend

Well, Assassins are more of a SQ sub. The Mag is a SQL sub - it gets loud and sounds good doing it. The Type R, L7, L5, and CVX are all more SPL oriented. So, it really depends on what you're looking for. Why not just go with one of you 12" Assassins since you already have it? If it wasn't enough, you could always upgrade.

RL-P, Used Ava, Arsenal would all give you what you need...For that price.

You can wait a little and see how those FI Qs turn out...those are also in your price range...

thanks for the suggestions!

i was thinking of an arsenel or something from the fi lineup.

if i have time i'd like to build a 2 ft^3 @ 32 Hz with a cutout for a 12" and first try one assassin, and then try a different sub if that doesn't satisfy me. if only the assassin could handle more power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif the arsenal may be a perfect fit though!

I used to have a pair of 12 inch Atlas's, in a sealed box (1.8 cu ft per) off of 600 wrms. From what I have read, the Assassin gets louder and sounds a little better than the Atlas.

I currently have one 12" Mag off of 1200wrms in a sealed box.

As far as SQ, they are pretty close, but the Atlas's KILLED the Mag SPL wise. I was also messing around and stuck the Mag in a pre-fab ported box for a little bit. Its roughly 1.5 cu ft, tuned to mid 30's Im assuming. SPL went way up, but still not quite as loud as the Atlas's.

So, your SQ will probably be about the same, maybe a little better, but I think your SPL is going to go down.

well, i guess i'll just not have a trunk then!

if my two assassins ($150 total) are going to be louder than a $500 sub i think i'll definitely stick with the assassin's.

i was thinking about getting an arsenal and putting it in 2 ft^3 @ 35Hz, but i don't see any point if i'm going to lose tons of output //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i don't think i'll need to haul much in the near future, but if that does change i may just have to bite the bullet and lose some output.

if i want a rectangular cube shaped box (easiest to make), and i want to be able to slid it all the way against the backs of my seats, i can only have a 14" tall box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

if i were to deviate from the rectangular cube i could make it work, but it would be my first box, so i'd like to keep it easy.

it looks like going from two 12's down to one 12 (ported) i could save about 10" of depth!

if i need the space i'll have to try it, and i'd like to attempt my first box build someday as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

u cant go wrong with the arsenal for the price it is still at...

me too i cant put anything taller than 15" in my trunk...

my box is like that now, that sub went in 4different boxes, and this one is the sweetest, loud and low, 3.8cu.ft NET @30hz(peak frequency is around 38hz-40hz if im correct, still need to check it out more):

check out this sub, u might be really interested if u really want 12"

The 2 Atlas subs killed the mag SPL wise? What were you putting up for numbers with the 2 12's? Right now people are right around 150db's with a pair of mags. So I am sure people would be around high 140's with a single mag 12.

So just let me know what you were putting up number wise with the Atlast subs. I am very curious, because if 2 Atlast or Assasins can kill the mags in output, a pair must be hitting well in the 150's. And hell, I may even pick some up then:yumyum:

Two aresenal 12's would have a hard time keeping up with a mag in a proper enclosure with proper power. The aresenal is a great driver for hte price but it wont dance against a driver like the Mag 12, even in pairs.

so what'd be louder:

dual assassin 12's

800W+ total

3.5ft^3 @32Hz

or

single Mag 12"

800W+

2.0ft^3 @ 32Hz

same car, same install

what about switching out the mag for an arsenal 12?

i think i'm going to build a 2ft^3 @ 35Hz box and use one assassin for now, if i decide i want more output then i'll look into a new sub.

That is a lot of power for thoes aresenals. The mag could also handle some more power.

I'd wager on the Mag in both instances though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

What I'm wondering is how are you going to get 800w to both the mag and the assasins. Different amps?
