One Power Door Lock Not Working After Alarm Install

I've got a 2003 Matrix with factory keyless entry and just had a Viper1000 installed a few days ago. I thought everything was working, but after some playing around I found that the driver's side rear door isn't locking/unlocking anymore. It doesn't even work by hitting the master control in the driver door. Also, it seems to be sort of intermittent. One day the door will lock/unlock fine several times, then the next day it stops working again.

I know it was working fine before the install. Is it possible they missed a wire? Is each door sent the signal seperately? Or are they gonna try and blame it on the motor inside that door?

I am taking it back to the installer asap, but when I talked to them on the phone they were already trying to deny responsibility.

Of course they were. What else would you expect. If they refuse to deal with it, tell them you'll be taking it to a mechanic to fix (at $70/hour or more) and IF in the mechanic's EXPERT ASE-CERTIFIED opinion, it is related to their alarm install, you'll be sending them a bill for the repair. If they don't pay it, you'll be contacting an attorney, the BBB, and suing them for the damage.

I doubt they'll have a problem looking for a loose wire, after that, but be sure to be willing to back up anything you threaten. Don't say it if you're not going to back it up. Tell the owner/manager, "I'm giving you guys the chance to make this right before I take it any farther. It's up to you how this goes."

Is it possible it's unrelated? Sure. If it is, be prepared to pay for it yourself, could be a normal maintenance issue.

yup that's just a neg. puls..... there really shouldent be anything wrong with the rear door as you say unless they had to go into that door??????? for what reson tho??? did you have then install speakers??

Just got back from the installer. He explained that the alarm simply sends a pulse to the same wire that the master switch button in the driver door uses, and that they did not go into the door(s) for the install. He said since the master switch also fails to activate that door, it must be the actuator motor in that door starting to fail.

It all sounds feasable, still seems fishy that it started immediately after the install. Guess I will pricing an actuator soon.

yeah i think you are looking at about 120-180 bucks for a door actuator i recently had to get one for my 97honda accord ran me 180$ retail , everytime i lock my car and alarm activated my door would make a loud noise very annoying so i went to autozone and got me the part slapped it on and now its fine i turn alarm on and off and nothing happens when door opens or locks

Just an update: It's been a week now and the bad lock has been working fine. What changed, you ask?

I did some poking around and noticed that the lock failed to work mostly when that door was closed. And as soon as the door was swung open the lock worked again. I was able to repeat this several times. So I started to think there might be a loose wire or connector inside that door. Without taking the door panel off, I simply pulled back the rubber tube that the wires run through, inspected the wiring, and re-seated the rubber tube. I did not see anything unusual with the wires, but since then the lock has worked every time.

If the problem comes back I may have to take a closer look. Starting a new thread for another question...
