One loud sub!

I have a JL audio 13" W7 in a sealed box as of now. I heard that it would sound 10x better in a ported box. Will a ported box really make the sub a lot louder and what qualities will be sacrificed? If any.

Yes, ported has MUCH better output than sealed enclosures. The disadvantage is that you will be losing SQ, if you tune low enough, however (around 28-32Hz), then the SQ will still be very good, and will be much louder in most cases. DO IT

About the only disadvantage of a ported box is the sharp loss in output below tuning frequency.

If you make the proper size ported box, you will lose minimal audible SQ, and be up to 2x louder.

Most SQ systems dont even run a sub, so just the fact that you are looking for bass means that you are looking for bass, and for better bass, you need to try out ported.
