On axis/Off axis

what exactly is on axis and off axis moutning in component speakers?? I especially see it a lot with tweeter placement. My original thought is on axis tweeter placement is facing tweeter/speaker firing at your ears and off axis is firing away from you, but now I think I am wrong with that assumption. So what is up with the on/off axis mounting and what are the pros/cons of each?? thanks

It is exactly what you said.

hehe!! gotta love this trainwreck but anyways...... So it is just basically either firing the tweeters at your ears or away from your ears. Mine are on axis right now then and if you look at my sig(Perfects) my ears are really starting to fatigue from the harsh tweeter. Should or can I mount them off axis??? In a 4 door sedan with the mid down low in the door and the tweeter high up in the pillar does installing the tweeters off axis sound better?? Anyone off axis mount them on this board?? thanks

Ive never run those tweeters off-axis (or run them myself at all) but usually tweeters are designed to run on-axis, or off-axis, and dont work well the other way. I have a set of Adire Kodas whose tweeters were designed to work off-axis, specifically to be mounted relatively low in a car door as is so common, for example.
What Im getting at is they likely wont image well at all off-axis, but you can try and see what happens. How's that for a definite answer? lol

right on bro, good answer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif How do you know whether tweeters are designed to run on or off axis?? Also with running the Infinity Perfects firing at the windshield do you think that would help the sound and decrease their harshness?? thanks
