Older mtx 8500 question

Going thru a bunch of my old car audio stuff and found my custom box with 2 mtx 8500 12's ( weigh probably what i do lol). They are from 03-05 i think, they are dual 4 ohm.Thinking about putting them in a blazer, what im wondering is if they will be able to handle my oldschool kicker kx1200.1 at 1 ohm? I know the kicker puts out at least 1200 rms at 1 ohm. I think the 8500s were rated for 500? Anyone know if they were underrated and could handle this beastly amp? I remember being really happy with the sq and spl of these subs and wanna keep em. The kicker is the smallest amp i have that is 1 ohm stable, and im not going to buy more subs, amps, ect...

That's a pretty good match. I had 3 8000's (500rms/ea) on a modded 1501d back in the day and they handled the power. Just set it up right and you should be just fine.

All i worried about is the kicker being underrated and the subs not. Not sure what this baby puts out but im sure its over 1200rms

It really comes down to what type of box you plan on using. Regardless, It's always better to have more power on tap than not enough. I'd feel very confident with that combo.

Great older amp. I actually enjoyed that series/ line up. Really reliable amps and I never had any issues out of any of the ones I ran.You should be just fine running that amp on that pair of subs. be better off with Big3and a good AGM or two on stock 110-140 amp alt.Ran one on 140 amp stock alt and one agm, later ran two agms before the big 3 with very little light dimming at full tilt in my truck on a single 18

This is them. I forget what its tuned to but its a super heavy well built 7/8" custom box for these

And yeah, i love these older kicker amps. Very well made, do great taking punishment, and do more than they are rated for rms wise (which seems rare these days)

Yes, Great series of Kicker amps.No telling what the enclosure is tuned to.You may be able to remove the subs and measure it all of without displacement and get an idea what you are working with.I have always said run what you have and utilize what you have. If it sounds good to you and meets your criteria,..Run it!!Im an old school amp person myself.i like to run old Zed made amps, I have a decent collection as well. Die hards for sure and still perform nicely.

I can't remember what it's tuned to exactly but it was built for these subs. Wasn't cheap... And zed amps are dope! Seems like the older stuff lasts 10x longer and is just better in general. It's sad. All went downhill when companies starting using "peak" wattage. What a joke, and all the poor saps that believe that **** that and cheap materials/planned obsolescence....
