The Clarion APA4300HX. It has the same Power Guard circuitry as McIntosh. It also has .002% THD. I know that Clarion bought McIntosh and they said they wouldn't change the way McIntosh does things, but will use some of their technology. I also thought Clarion sold McIntosh to Denon (not sure).

Anyway, has anyone used this amp? How is it's SQ? Is it under rated or over rated? Has anyone compared it to a McIntosh?

I don’t think that you are going to get to many responses. Seems to be a pretty rare and uncommon amp.
Yeah, maybe you're right.

Sounds like you read my ebay ad...Now buy my ****ing amp 8)

Umm...actually no I didn't. A local shop recommended it, but you know how that goes. Anyway, if you have this amp on Ebay then you must be able to comment about it's SQ. So how about it...or do you just like being an ***!

Lol sorry, it just sounded verbatim something I wrote in an ad. Don't 'cha just hate when several people are watchin' your ebay sale but don't bid until the last minute //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif Didn't mean to be a dick.

DiamondFanatic, the older Clarion purple amps are McIntosh/Clarion hybrids, which is what I have on ebay right now. They sound great and can be had cheap if you can find them.

But the 4300HX is just way too much money for an unproven amp. You can get a lot better for less IMO. Points for uniqueness though!

No worries. Have you actually heard the APA4300HX or is your opinion just based on it's cost? If it could be had for under $500 would that change your opinion?

No sorry, I can't say that I have heard one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Not many people even know this amp exists, lol. If you have the money, be the guinea pig 8)

I'm sure it sounds great, but I'm just a firm believer that amps of a certain quality all sound alike. For $300-500 you could also pick up a Tru 4.65 (used), ARC 4150 (used), Helix (used), Kicker SX900.4 (new), Diamond D7, or even a McIntosh 4 channel. All of which are proven, maintain thier resale, and put out plenty of clean power as considered the most elite of amps .

But again, I appreciate the desire to be unique, it's just whether or not you can afford it hehe.

I'm just dead set on getting a Mcintosh 4 channel for my comps. I have $1000 to spend but rather not. If the Clarion is pretty much a McIntosh in different clothes, why not get it for half the price of a McIntosh. I don't want the amp to be different.

One of the main reasons I want a McIntosh is for the Power Guard feature...protects the amp from clipping and serves as it's own line driver (correct me if I'm wrong). I also know that McIntosh has great a rep for SQ and I like their look. Unfortunately, the amp wont be mounted where it will be visible.
