OK please hear me out

40 is what most competitors use.

So a higher tuning has more spl? I've been using the search and some people say tune low and some say tune high and now I'm confused. I'm not looking to really be heard that much outside but felt on the outside.

And also I have a co-worker who thinks that all he as to do is throw in 4 12's regardless of if the subs are the same or if the ohms match up that he'll be very loud. He told me how he's going to set it up and it seems like there will be a ton of cancelation or just sound like crap altoghter. His current 2 12 install doesn't look too neat at all and doesn't look professional and the subs look pretty bad too. He and other people who know nothing keep saying "do the math it's 4 12's vs. 1 or 2 15's". So what I want is while he has his system on I'll turn mine on and drown out his system and they'll all be looking stupid. So I want to be moving a ton of air outside my car. BTW I'll be getiing my new system installed by the best shop in the city. So do you guys think I can do it with 1 15 L7 ported with an epicenter or do I need two? His subs are two very old looking Fosgate Puches that don't look to be in good shape at all and the other two that he'll be adding arn't the same subs and the ohms most likely won't mathc because he doesn't even know or care what ohms mean as along as he has 4 12's.

i'd tune to what sounds good to you. chances are, you'll grow tired of hi tuned fart boxes to impress people and you'd rather have sweet sound

With that I'll probably go with 32 then.

the only reason why you hear it outside of the car is because the bass waves travel THROUGH objects in the air unlike higher frequencies that bounce off. THUS, how loud it is INSIDE the vehicle is the better representation of the SPL. this is becasue the deadening keeps the bass WITHIN the trunk vs allowing the waves to vibrate the metal and cause you to lose SPL. what you guys are comparing is like comparing a deadened trunk vs an undeadened and saying the nondamped is louder because it rattles more.

I definitely don't want any trunk rattle I hate that nasty sound it makes my stomach hurt thinking about it so should I deaden the trunk and put the windows down? I want clean bass to fill the air. One summer day along time ago a Impala pulled up next to me and rocked the fvck out of me car but with no rattles at all, just clean bass. Thats what I want to do so that he'll shut up.

This is what you do, wall up half you car and create a true Infinite baffle with as many woofers as you can fit in this wall and still have enough air space in the "rear chamber". The IB will give you a flatter Fr curve down low so you can blast a 15 hz tone, cause everyone to vomit within a 100 foot radius.
