Ya I don't think low voltage caused that to happen to the woofer. If nething your amps should be fried

For a fried amp my 1000/1 sure makes the sub get pretty **** loud:eyebrow: Check the vid I posted there's definitly no problem at all with the amp.

why would the tinsel leads break with low voltage? i am not sure about the burn marks, cuz it seems your cone is kevlar (btw where did that come from). if the voltage is low, your amp would most likely turn off. i am sure with all the fancy JL gadgetry, it would have protection. i think you have a different problem than low voltage.

This is what Tuan told me as to why the tinsels broke. He knows this sub inside and out seeing as he was one of the people who built it. He asked if I ever have a low voltage drop where the music cuts out and I said yeah cuz it's happened a couple times. He said the amp sends a distorted and horrible square wave signal to the sub at that time and thats what heated up the tinsels and eventually weakened em so much that the one snapped. The kevlar cone is a one off thing but i'm glad it was made out of that shit this time cuz otherwise it looks like the tinsel would've burned through anything else.

As for playing below tuning, the box is tuned to 30 and I have the subsonic filter set at 25. The only thing I can think of is when I cut the hole for the driver in the box I cut it a little too big and there's some air leaks. But I doubt that would make the sub **** itself up that bad?

I just wanted to post this:

what a weird sub, looks like a HC/blueprint motor (i say both since i don't know if the firts gen HC's had the angle cut on the top plate)

with a kevlar cone (DD esque) with an mt dustcap.

as for the square signal from the amp shutting off due to lack of voltage i would liek to see some amps tested on an osciloscope to see if it is a common trait.

Yeah it's a franken-sub lol. I dunno exactly what parts are in it actually. It's a ****ing monster though I'll tell you that much it's such a pain to take in and out of that box. Anyways, 1000 watts gets it moving but it can take a lot more. I guess Tuan has had some similar subs running off 4000, but thats competition shit. This is just my daily beater, I don't do comps at all. As soon as I find a 2500d for a good price that will be taking the place of the 1000/1. I've got a list of shit to do. Big 3, alternator (if Dom will ever get back to me lol), 2500d, new box, etc etc etc.

even if it were a full square wave, it still ocillates just like any other wave form. if your sub could handle the extra power from clipping, then it shouldn't have been damaged.

Well I dunno what the hell it is then. I need to make some of those felt pads to put between the tinsels and the bottom of the cone so if they do that shit again they won't burn it as bad. I really have no idea what it is if it's not the amp sending shitty signals at low voltage.

NOPE !!

It would take a short circuit to an unprotected amp to fry an amp. I had an alt. go out on me on my way home from work about 5 years ago and all that happened was first my a/c went out, then my sub amp and then my deck, and eventually my car stalled out.
