You need to match your amps ohm rating to your subs ohm rating... Depending on how many subs, and what configuration they come in, this will determine which ohm you will wire them to your amp.

 
vague... If your setting up your mids and highs go for a 4 ohm load, better sound quality. If your setting up your subs go for a 2 ohm load, the lower the load the more power you pull from your amp.

That is entirely dependent on the amp in question...

Examples that make a lie of that statement ~

JL Slash-series amps - same wattage output on any load from 1.5 Ohms to 4 Ohms

PG Xenon-series amps - same wattage output from 1 to 4 Ohms

Certain JBL amps that increase power output from a 4 Ohm load to a 2 Ohm load but offer no more power when shown a 1 Ohm load though the amps are 1 Ohm stable.

I'm sure there are more examples that escape me at the moment...
