long story short i got pulled over for my license plate cover and im just trying to find, in writing exactly how the law is worded but my searches are coming up with no explanation.

anyone know where i can find complete explanations of ohio driving laws.

looking for 335.09a specifically. ive gotten two explanations from two cops that were completely different and im trying to find the exact explanation thats in the books.

Ohio cops are unsavory people. I thought they hassled me because I was from Michigan, but I guess that's just their way. I got pulled over because of snow blocking my plate.

http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/45

it most likely will not help though because each municipality is allowed to add their own traffic laws as they see fit.
yeh. the cop told me i could go to the cities website and find it but ive clicked every link there is. tomorrow im going to go up to the station and get them to show it to me if all else fails.

one cop told me license plate covers are ok as long as plate can be read from 50 feet, other cop said they all were totally illegal. im putting them back on anyways cause ive had them on 9 years with no one ever complaining, and i believe i was just pulled over cause it was midnight and i was in the general vicinity of alot of bars in the area. i just want to know for principle of the matter and wondering how 2 cops have completely different interpretations of a law. its not right.

whoop...there it is in black and white
i knew i could count on ca.com! but that is the ohio code which he did say could differ slightly from the cities code. now i gotta find north olmsteds code 335.09a

if its the same as ohio code then a clear license plate cover is perfectly legal. all it said is it cant obstruct from reading it. doesnt say you cant have a cover on it.

i just want to say that earlier when i was sober i had no luck at all finding this. drunk, i found it in two seconds haha

and i drank a beer tonight called "monty python and the holy grail ale" good stuff.

i was in Columbus once and those bastards pulled me over and said my license plate expired. Not the sitcker which said December 07 and it was April 07. The plate. And to make that more Fuked up, I was in a rental car. So Avis is sending people out there in their rentals illegally........

Then he said that happened to him before.

But if the cover is too dark, or your plate light is out you can get pulled over for it. Something about it not being visible.

see the thing is that when she pulled me over it said it must be visible from 50 ft. both the state and city law says absolutely nothing about 50ft at all. it just says anything that obstructs it from view. thats a very subjective law

i dont know my plate by heart at all and when i got home i walked more than 50 feet away and read it perfectly. its a clear cover, very clean, and the lights are both white leds so they are very bright.

fact is i was in an area with alot of bars, i was leaving taco bell at midnight so when i didnt weave she made up an excuse to pull me over and see if i was drunk. its bullshit. the fact that two different cops have two interpretations of a law and neither of them were correct is a problem in my book.
