Yeah, I like the smoky, earthy flavor peat adds... very good.I'm at the point now where I only do single malts. I can't really enjoy Walker black anymore. To much of a grain taste. I guess it works of that's all they have at the bar.
I bought a bottle of Aberlour the other day. Its pretty good. Its aged in two types of wood. Pretty good flavor. Not too mild not too strong. No smoke or peat at all which upsets me. Got kind of a floral taste, but not as floral or fruity as Jura. Not on the level of Laphroaig or Caol Ila, but people who like the highland malts like glenlivet and glenfiddich would like this one.
I'll probably get a bottle of something else in the next few days and I'll give reviews.... I'm thinking bowmore.
Meh, I was about 23 when I started in on the Scotch, but it does take a while to develop a taste for it. I didn't REALLY get into it till I was about 27, but it was so cheap when I lived in the islands I got to drink it ALL the time. Exposure to many different brands really helped me learn how to distinguish all the intricate flavors, and when I went to the Auchentoshen distillery in Scotland, I got to sample about six or seven different kinds A/B and sorta helped me train my palate a bit more.im convinced you have to be 30+ yo to enjoy scotch...whisky is my favorite by far, but if you give me a shot of scotch/irish..im not going to enjoy it
i can cop it for around 7...but i only drink it when i party with my filthy rich uncle. I'm too f'n cheap to spend that kinda dough on liquorMacallan 30 year is what I like to call....el expensivo (~$900/bottle?), and not in the same range as most of the other stuff posted here. I'm not much of a scotch drinker but I sure do love me some good barrel-aged beer.
Are you sure it wasn't the bowmore legend? That stuff is usually a tad under 30bucks. Its their cheap scotch they put out but its not aged....i think its likr 6 years old or something.Yeah, I like the smoky, earthy flavor peat adds... very good.
I love Bowmore, but I got one bottle of it a few months ago that was abso-****ing-lutely horrendous! I've had it several times, but this was a Bowmore 12, and it was some of the harshest Scotch I've ever had. I ended up dumping it after trying it 2 or 3 different times. Couldn't even finish a glass. I dunno, it was like.... turpentine or something.
I've had Bowmore and Auchentoshen (same company) several times and always enjoyed them immensely (the Bowmore moreso), maybe I got a bad batch... it was on sale extremely cheap (~$30?)... I guess now I know why!
