BOOOM
I've been drinking scotch for a couple of years now. I've tried a lot. My list is something like:

Johnnie Red

Johnnie Black

Johnnie Green

Johnnie swing

Dewars white

J&B

Chivas Regal

Glenlivet

Glenfiddich

Jura

Famouse Grouse

Mclellands highland

Mclellands Islay

Talisker

Laphroaig

Lagavulin

Caol Ila

My favorites so far were Laphroaig Talisker and Lagavulin (obvioulsy I like Islay scotches) and johnnie green is a good vatted malt. Well I've been looking everywhere trying to get caol ila. No liquor store had it. several said they'd get it, but no luck. And of all places I found it today at a kroger marketplace (go figure????). Well I definitely have a new favorite. I can't get over how complex the flavor is. I didn't expect that just from the nose. Smelled like any other scotch. But **** the pallate and finish is just amazing. So many flavors in one and one hell of a good after taste. This is the one all will be measured against for now.

Black label can't compare. Its a mild scotch. Good for a 5 dollar glass at the bar. If your buying a bottle ila is so much better. Ila is even better then green label. Black label has some grain whisky in it so it really can't compare to a single malt. Ila is just soooo complex.

Sounds good. I'm going to have to TRY to get a bottle then.

What'd you pay for yours? I know only one place in town that MIGHT be able to get it, so it might be rough getting a hold of a bottle.....

The only liquor I drink is scotch

Single Malts prefferred

Dalwhinne is my preferred bottle

Definitely. you sound like your where I was at about a year ago. I hadn't tried any single malt other the glevlivet. Just drank a lot of johnnie and dewars. Try some different single malts from all around scotland and you'll find some that is 10000 times better then walker black.

I paid 45 for 750ml. I've heard that it can go for up to 55 though. But try the caol ila. try some Laphroaig and or lagavulin, they're both strong islay malts. Jura is good if you like a sweeter more floral and fruity scotch. Talisker is full of smoke. Glenlivet and Glefiddich are milder scotches. The caol Ila is is definitely the most complex of all I've tried.

I;ve seen the Dalwhinne around..... Is it a weaker scotch like most of the other highland malts? Any comments on the taste?

Dalwhinnie isn't my fav, but it's ok. I do like the Laphroig, as well. Also Bowmore and Auchentoshen I like, but maybe just because they got me toasted when I visited the distillery. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Johnny Gold is good for just enjoying, Glenfiddich 18-yr is one of my favs. Johnny Blue is overrated, but smooth, Chivas Royal Salute (21-year) is better by far, IMO.

Bowmore's 25-year is the best I've tried, but their 40-year is my goal, someday. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Good luck with that goal //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

My favorites so far have been Walker Black and Glenlivet, but I've yet to try a GREAT scotch. Most all of them that I've had have been sub-par from what I was expecting.
