They worked hard to attain their citizenship and make a new life in America. Also agreeing with Japan doesn't mean becoming a terrorist all the sudden because their mothership is in trouble. There were quite a few muslims who disagreed with the war (and for pretty good reasons tbh) but despite this, there was very limited aggression because of it. In fact, there was more aggression against muslim communities from racists than the opposite direction. This was also true before the Japanese camps were established. We ended up apologizing to japanese americans and giving reparations for descendants of those imprisoned and it helped a lot to heal the wounds of the war. We still can't quite bring ourselves to give them to descendants of slaves though.I agree that it is not moral to do it... but there is no way to determine how a race will react either. The Japanese attacked us. It is conceivable that these Japanese Americans were holding on to a stronger Japanese... what's the word?? They lived in Americal but still lived as Japanese holding their values higher than that of the US... you follow?
You're preaching to the choir. Kinda my point... people don't always think rationally. Especially when pressured. Reparations for slave descendants though. I think too much time has passed for that. But I tell you what, here is an idea. Give every verified descendant of a slave a free scholarship to college. Give them the opportunity to better their own lives, no excuses. They worked hard to attain their citizenship and make a new life in America. Allegiance, but that's based on nationalism and pretty unfounded fear.
I think they would appreciate that more than most people understand. It's crazy that it's been this long. Interesting though there's actually very good records going back to slave time though because ledgers existed for slaves birth and death. I mean it's pretty horrific but it allows accurate tracking for a lot of former slave families. Also slaves were given property on release that was almost instantly taken away from them in exchange for basic needs that they didn't have, so the deeds for all of that are present. You're preaching to the choir. Well the only issue I see is that free college education is pretty popular as it is with the American people, so offering them that and then extending it to everyone would seem pretty disingenuous from the get-go. Money would be the more obvious choice, but regardless it would have to be something unique to them, not just everyone gets it but they get it first.I'd vote for a free college education. Pretty sure none of my ancestors ever owned slaves but I wouldn't feel bad helping them get an education if it is deemed doable.
I actually think Healthcare and Education, all the way through college, should be free to all who want or need it.Well the only issue I see is that free college education is pretty popular as it is with the American people, so offering them that and then extending it to everyone would seem pretty disingenuous from the get-go. I'm curious how you feel about policies that are means-tested? So for example, Biden wants to have free college for people who come from households earning less than 125k a year I believe it is. Would it be better or worse to extend that to everyone, even millionaires and billionaires?
For sure, that's drawing a pretty stark divide between you and republicans/libertarians though. It's also interesting that you don't think it should be means tested. I don't either, that just diminishes the fairness for honestly pretty minor gains. I sometimes feel that establishment democrats do that on purpose. They make things that specifically keep out rich people so that they then lead a crusade about it later because truthfully it's unfair. They (well millionaires, not billionaires), pay most of the taxes, so I don't know why their kids can't benefit from it.I actually think Healthcare and Education, all the way through college, should be free to all who want or need it.
My fiance comes from a very poor home, her parents are god damn heros for how much support they gave her when they had so little. It would have been so much easier for them to give themselves and her the life she needed without medical costs out of pocket and her college tuition. In a way you could say it helped because the prospect of failing wasn't an option for her after all her family sacrificed, but I see that and think that it shouldn't take so much for a family to lift a child out of prospects of nothing but poverty and into the middle class with a bachelor's degree. When my parents were young they could pay for college with a part time job. Do you think capitalism is the cause?I see it like this. Give them the tools, let them build it. Like here, I will help you educate yourself so you have the abilities to succeed. However, it is up to you if you want the tools or how much success you earn.
Right, exactly.I look at it this way, it doesn't hurt anyone to be smarter. So making sure EVERYONE can be educated benefits the US as a whole. Free healthcare means one less worry and healthier Americans can focus on growing be it at work or in school.
I think greed is the cancer of humanity. Money rules everything and it can seriously hinder many people. I think capitalism is good and could really thrive for more, lower to middle class, with a more educated America. Perhaps with more educated people there will be fewer classes? or at least less distance between them.My fiance comes from a very poor home, her parents are god damn heros for how much support they gave her when they had so little. Capitalism I think is the quickest way for innovation, so I don't want to knock it too badly. At the same time though it's also a recipe for disaster when companies have a fiduciary responsibility to increase shareholder value at any cost. Being a good or moral company is almost forbidden if it's not the most efficient business model. Not to mention Washington greed. If greed is the cancer of humanity then lobbyists and super pacs are certainly the tumors.I think greed is the cancer of humanity. Money rules everything and it can seriously hinder many people. Hell, my brother and I were watching Fox News earlier and we noticing all these BLM hats, shirts and flags. Someone is making these thing and most likely selling them. My money is on a Capitalist and not a BLM supporter.Capitalism I think is the quickest way for innovation, so I don't want to knock it too badly. The way I describe capitalism as it's manifested in the US since Bush is "late-stage capitalism." We see Jeff Bezos making billions of dollars off the pandemic, multinational businesses taking relief money all because they over-leveraged recklessly, just like the 2008 financial crisis, and people losing their homes. Capitalism leads to oligarchy if the structures of our democracy aren't in the interest of the voters. Education is hopefully the route to achieving more informed voters to get these fake clowns out.
