**Official NHL 08-09 Season Thread**

Not a huge Hockey fan but will probably go to 2 or 3 Lightning games this year. A friend of the family has center ice tickets about 5 rows back so whever we go it's a great time. Just wish we had a better goalie...

The problem is, that kind of play doesn't translate in the playoffs. At least Hossa has been as good as advertised.

Season isnt even 1/2 over. Dont risk an ankle injury so early in the season by jumping off the bandwagon. Theyll get it straightened out.

Mike Smith is like 9th in the league for save percentage (92.5%, best is 94.3%, 5th is 92.8%) ... However, when your team has the 2nd most shots allowed per game (34.7) and the least goals per game in the league, it makes it difficult to win games, even if you had the best goalie in the league.
The Lightning have the talent, they just haven't been playing well as a team and their defense is sorely lacking in the majority of games. In the few games I've seen where they've really showed off what they're capable of, they absolutely dominated their opponents. If they played like that every night, they'd easily be a playoff team.

Detroit has a solid team, though I don't think they're quite as solid as they were last year.
We need Luongo back.

I think the shootout tonight could've ended differently if he was. I'm not hating on Schnieder but that first shootout goal looked a little weak.

i think its funny, its a nhl thread andevery1 talks bout the wings hah like everything is compared to them

it will probably be det and sj in the western finals this year, and even though it be a nice repeat of 97/98 to get the 2 in a row, even though i hate sj they have 1 good chance...

BUT regardless it doesnt matter how good you do as long as u get in the playoffs

and u wont go anywhere in the playoffs unless your goalie is on fire....

Bruins are looking good, love Timmy's unorthodox style, and love when his short temper, he has great tantrums.

My g/f is cousins with Michael Ryder. He's looking pretty good so far this season. Hope he returns to his form.

Glads to see the penguins lose to the sabres tonight. Crosby is such a whiney *****. After his shitty team losses and he's red and frustrated (probably cried in the locker room) he's talking to some sabres player with a ref between them and he tries to throw some ****** punch like a little 8 year old girl.

So because I'm a fan of a team that is good makes me a bandwaggoner? I'm sorry if the team has been good ever since I have been alive and can't say I watched them when they are bad. They are giving up more goals then they should and won't make it far in the playoffs if this continues.

Everyone talks about the Wings because they have set the standard in hockey the past 2 decades. If it wasn't the fact that this is the NHL, the media would be all over Ken Holland's nuts as he is one of the best GM's in all of sports.

Truth.... to go from a championship winning team in a Salary cap era, and keep all of your star players, as well as sign another star player.... the Redwings management seriously knows what they are doing.

Man, the Canucks played a VICIOUS game against the Predators today. Quite a few highlight-reel-worthy hits/cheap shots.
