No, I missed that game. It's hard a judge a team by their first game though. Especially playing a team of Va. Tech caliber. I do hope they are that bad though.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
Depending on your internet provider, you can watch most of the SEC teams on ESPN360.com.

Can anyone tell me how, besides the National Championship last year, did Florida get the #1 ranking with a schedule like this:

9/05 Charleston Southern

9/12 Troy

9/19 Tennessee

9/26 @ Kentucky

10/10 @ No. 11 LSU

10/17 Arkansas

10/24 @ Mississippi State

10/31 vs. No. 21 Georgia

11/07 Vanderbilt

11/14 @ South Carolina

11/21 Florida International

11/28 Florida State

Really, no Alabama, no Mississippi, hell, the hardest team on the schedule is LSU. Georgia is meh, IMO.

OSU played a team that has this to be said about them:

In the last seven years, Navy has consistently been one of the top rushing teams in the country, never finishing lower than third.

In 2002, Navy finished third in the nation, averaging 270.8 yards per contest.

In 2003, the Mids led the nation in rushing, averaging a then school-record 323.2 yards per game.

In 2004, Navy finished third in the nation, averaging 289.5 yards per contest.

In 2005, Navy led the country in rushing for the second time in three years, averaging 318.7 yards per game.

Navy finished the 2006 campaign averaging a nation’s-best and then school-record 327 yards per game.

The Mids rushed for a school-record 348.8 yards per game in 2007, becoming the first team in NCAA history to lead the nation in rushing three-consecutive years. The 348.8 yards per game are the most yards rushing by a FBS team since Nebraska averaged 349.3 yards per game in 2000.

Navy led the country in rushing for an unprecedented fourth-consecutive year in 2008, averaging 292.4 yards per contest.

In A Rush

Yr. Rank Average

2002 3rd 270.8

2003 1st 323.2

2004 3rd 289.5

2005 1st 318.7

2006 1st 327.0

2007 1st 348.8*

2008 1st 292.4

Too bad Florida can't schedule a team like that to open with.

Florida returns the same team that won the championship last year. It was a no-brainer to give them the pre-season #1. They are well known to schedule at least 2 cup-cakes a year. I was astonished to see them schedule Hawaii & Miami last year (neither of which were very good though BTW). I guess that's better than Charleston Southern, Troy, FIU, Citadel, and La Tech who seem to be always on their schedule (three of which are on their schedule this year). They play FSU annually but they haven't been their old selves as of late. It looks very good that they run the table this year in the regular season. The SEC west champs will be their toughest test. I predict it to be Alabama but who knows. I think Georgia will get better as the year goes on and will give the Gators a good game. Playing any SEC team is no gimme. The players get up for those game.

Everyone better hope someone knocks off BYU and Boisie St. With their schedules it looks as if they can run the table also. Jumping to #9 & #12 in the rankings would ensure a BCS title game appearance if Florida drops a game. I personally don't think either are a top 10 team so that would be a disaster. I think there is only 2-3 teams that are capable of running the table this year now that week 1 is done and both of those teams have the schedule to do it.

My point is besides the national title though. They have NO schedule. If they want the #1 ranking in my book, they need to learn how to schedule teams that are worth a shit. Either that, or the SEC needs to have the teams play every team in their conference. That would make things interesting and would also give the SEC every right to say they are the toughest conference in college football. As it sits though, as I said, no Miss, no Alabama, Florida only has Georgia and LSU to worry about. Other than that, they should cruise the rest of the schedule, and that's a shame with such a talented team.
