***Offical 08/09 NBA thread!***

I still don't understand how Lebron can be anymore marketed in New York then he already is. If he is trying to replace David Lederman, I don't see it. Payton Manning is one of the most endorsed athletes, and he plays in Indianapolis. He's been on Saturday Night Live. I just don't get it. It seems more of ESPN and their east coast bias.

I don't know, but he will probably be a Knick for sure after them clearing salary cap space. He will have a hell of a tag team partner as well. I don't want to see it happen, but more than likely it will. I always thought he would be a cavalier, but money talks and he wants to be bigger than the sport itself it seems. His antics of late have raised questions from me, but hey if I was in his shoes, I would probably do the same. Worry about my family and have a huge head/ego to boot. He has the game to back it up, but wish he would just go about his business in a different way, but he is one of the best to play and has so much more in him. So is whatever, just Cleveland will fall apart with out him.........till hopefully the next big thing, but hard to replace James.

He can make more money in Cleveland. According to the salary agreement, Cleveland can offer him a contract bigger then any other team. I don't know how he can be any marketed then he is in Cleveland. If he truly wants to win, he will stay in Cleveland or go to a place like Detroit where he'll be around better players.

He keeps saying, just wait till 2010, the summer of kings! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

He also mentioned how much people love him in NY and is already a huge Yankees fan and this and that about NY, plus he wants to play in one of the most famous arenas around in Madison square gardens.........which makes no sense to me granted they are up for a new stadium IIRC in 2012.......or maybe it was a remodeling of it........I can't remember now.

And I don't understand your logic anymore on the marketing thing. You always say how small Cleveland is a small market and the reason we have trouble keeping players and now you say you don't understand how they can market him anymore?

So when Alex Rodriguez went from Seattle to Texas to the Yankees, you don't think he wasn't marketed as much?

The NBA is different. They have a salary cap. The MLB doesn't so teams like Cleveland have a harder time generating revenue from TV contracts like New York. Lebron is such a big star that he has no problem marketing himself in Cleveland. Cleveland can pay him the most money. He has tons of endorsement deals. I don't see how he can be a bigger star in New York then he already is.

yeah, but people can mature alot over 2 years. cavs may land another contributing player in the next 2 years, they have done pretty good thus far in trying to accomodate him. he is also fundamentally sound under mike brown. remember, mike brown and ferry sure did learn alot of shit here. san antonio is a super small market and other than david robinson have never been able to surround duncan with another blockbuster player. parker and ginobili (was an asset overseas already) were built off of good scouting and hard work and drafted high in the first or even second round.

dont you think duncan has been offered more? he could have gone to detroit, LA, or other larger markets, but he didnt and built himself something special because of those around him.

Duncan doesn't strike me as a big ego player as Lebron. Duncan is not marketable. He doesn't have the flash and wow factor that Lebron has. He just goes out and plays good basketball.

Lebron I thought was mature already, but obvious as of late he don't seem to be, which sucks, but in a way I can't blame him. Mike Brown is a decent coach and seems to be able to handle situautions like this, so hoping he silences him. Would be nice to have them keep Bron and have Willams at the point and add another good player. I would love to see that. Time tells.

You are right about Duncan, but he does so much more for his team than just his play. Wish Bron had more Duncans mind set.........and he may in time hopefully, but I could see him leaving for the Knicks as well. Yeah, we have a lot of money, but he really is loved in NY, just as much as in Cleveland and he said he would love to play in Madison square gardens............

This is exactly how the Grant Hill situation went down. he said all the right things about wanting to be in Detroit, but on the first day of free agency he bolts. Luckily for Detroit, they worked out a sign and trade and got by far, the better end of the deal.
