***Offical 08/09 NBA thread!***

Because they're worried about his effect on the team. The suggested reasons for that vary....some think it comes from KG (based on their history in MN), some have related it to Rondo, House, and Pruitt losing playing time, and others feel that Doc Rivers doesn't want Marbury at all.
By signing him and letting him go after March 1st, they would keep him off the playoff roster of the Cavs, the Lakers, the Magic, and any other team that the Celtics would have to worry about in the playoffs.

wicked false...

NBA playoff rosters are set April 15th, a team can sign any free agent player between now and that time and have that player as part of their 13 man playoff roster...The Mach 1st deadline refers to bought out layers on. A player must reach a buyout agreement with their team by March 1st in order to be eligible to play for a team in the playoffs, they can of course play for the team the remainder of the season if they like...In effect, now that Marbury has signed with another team, the Celtics and he has officially met the March 1st buyout deadline, if he is waived by the C's, he can in fact sign with any team and be eligible to play in the playoffs...

Marbury is not that bad. Do you know the story about his shoes vs LBJ's shoes? Up until his problems in NY, he was a 22 ppg, 8 apg player with great talent, and that's what I like to see. I love how the media and fans judge players they don't understand and, in some cases, have never met.

As for the deadline, the player had to be waived by March 1st to be eligible to play with another team in the playoffs. Yes, the rosters are set on April 15th, so a player can be signed at any point before then, but they HAD to be a free agent by March 1st at Midnight if they want to play in the playoffs with whichever team signs them.

If Marbury is released by the Celtics, he will be ineligible on any other team's playoff roster.

Great game last night. Beating the LeBron James show without Garnett is a big boost for the Celtic's confidence. Leon Powe was the man down low last night. And it also doesn't hurt when you keep Delonte West in check either.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

If Toney Allen is healthy by then it will be interesting to see who makes the roster.

Leon "POW" as I like to call him is a beast and if it wasn't for Garnett, would be a hell of a player in this league. He would start on a lot of other teams, but not in Boston he won't.

He did kill us, but they were nothing more than the usual Garnett numbers. He wouldn't have put those up with KG in the line up.

Also you did more than keep West in check. You keep Bron in check for the most part as well.

Also you guys should have demolished us with the points in the paint. Really if it wasn't for our poor free throw shooting, it would have been a lot closer than you think.

Oh well, Boston is tuff to win in, just like you didn't win in Cleveland. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I agree. The #1 seed is going to be pretty important. Home court means a lot to both Boston AND Cleveland.

Went to the Magic game last night... we played horribly and still won.. although to a less-than-stellar Nets team.

I know D-How's lovin' all this Boston/Cleveland talk... flyin' under the radar like always.

If they can stay healthy and as of right now, I am picking Utah out of the West to surprise most. Might not beat the Lakers, but will give a run more so than the Spurs IMO. They are healthy now and hell were playing awesome without Boozer.

10 in a row and look really good right now.

Also Orlando isn't flying under the radar. Wasn't too long ago they were up there as the best in the East. Just happens they had a major injury to Nelson, who IMO makes that team tick. Alston is not Nelson and will never be at his level. Without Nelson they will not make it. They will win their division and maybe the 1st round, but that is about it.
