Offroad pics you say...

This is my '87 toy i built from stock... Tires are only 35's and as far as articulation goes, it's not maxed out in any of those pictures.

SAS'd, trail gear 5", Locked front and rear with 5.29's, longfield axles up front, single t case for now. sliders waiting to be welded on. 2.4L.

The bed is ghetto but the rest of the truck is built properly

It's funny seeing people posting brand new shiny trucks on gravel roads saying it's offroad

nice truck 1980 supreme. now thats a REAL off road rig. ive had 2 98 tacomas lifted and locked and a 95 landcruiser lifted and locked. toyota ftw

The old jeeps were good stuff, the new ones are slowly becoming mainstream SUVs. I miss the in-line 6. Ive experienced it in various jeeps and it seemed like a really solid, torquey motor that would put out alot of miles with no muss or fuss. Either way they're great off road but I don't see them as head and shoulders above anything else out there. They are short wheel base with good approach and departure angles but their ground clearance isn't anything special. At the end of the day anybody who really beats up on a jeep does the same thing as anybody who really beats up on other stuff: It gets a lift and tires at bare minimum, possibly gears, snorkel, better shocks, etc...They get stuck just like anything else and there's stuff out there that, apples to apples, does certain things better than a Wrangler or a Cherokee would.

I don't have pics but I beat up on my 04 Dakota Quad Cab at some abandoned construction sites in the first couple months after I bought it. Really steep dirt inclines, deep ruts and ridges, and some looser sand. Did OK, never got stuck or struggled. I never really played around again since I went through two sets of ball joints, a set of shocks, and various front end pieces just from mostly highway driving and never really trusted the front end after that even for mild off roading.

I'll probably take my 09 Tundra Crewmax on the beach or dirt from time to time but will never tackle anything more serious than that. And that will only come once the crappy factory tires are gone. If I ever get serious it will be with something old and cheap with a more solid suspension than anything that comes on newer trucks.
