Odd question about rear view mirror

They are just silver coated glass right?

I have a Dakota Digital temp and voltage gauge with digital displays. I would like to mount them inside the rear view mirror so you can see only the digital displays. Would this be possible by scrapping off the silver from inside the mirror and mounting the display behind the area scrapped off?

One way glass might be easier to work with

Hmm. Didn't think about that. Could just get it cut exactly like the glass in the mirror.
