Hey all,
It's been a very long time since I've been on this forum. I had a few questions for anyone who is familiar on sound deadening a car.
To my basic knowledge, I understand that when sound deadening a car, it is not required to cover more than about (don't quote me on this) 25% of the surface area. Well, unfortunately I had 100% of my Civic's floor covered with the exception on the rear bench seats by an installer.
I'd like to remove as much unnecessary weight from my car as possible. I'm trying to keep my MPG's up and 40 LBS of this weight isn't helping when my car weighs in at slightly over 1 ton.
My question to all of you is... The floor of my car never rattled to begin with. Would removing the entire floor sound deadening material have any noticeable impact on the acoustics of my vehicle? I'm not a perfectionist when it comes to audio and I don't intend on trying to make my car as good as it can possibly be in the world of sound engineering. I'm just not too knowledgeable with acoustics to know what I should expect.
To date, I have the spare tire in the hatch layered in sound deadening material. I'm going to leave that. My doors are also done, but they were re-done with the correct amount of material.
No foam is used on any parts of the car. All I have installed is the thick mat that one applies to surface areas of the vehicle.
Any info would be appreciated. I'd like to start removing this stuff tomorrow if possible!
