octave settings on hu

Im gonna be switching to a deh7800 mp headunit with a 3 way crossover. Connected to a 4 channel amp running infinity perfect components using infinity crossovers.

How would octave affective sound? I don't know where to set it. One more question I have , what should I not touch in terms of settings that will possibly damage speakers?

Im switching over because this unit has a 16 band equalizer, time alignment, 3 way crossover.

That's the slope of the crossover. It determines how sharply the filter kicks in. 12 dB/Octave is normal. Understand that the amp has hipass and lowpass filters too, so with component speakers and passive crossovers you won't even need the HU crossovers.

The bass setting is the thing that gets people into trouble. Other than that you really can't hurt anything.
