May 19 (Bloomberg) -- The Senate Finance Committee provided an early glimpse of ways Congress might pay for the overhaul of health care President Barack Obama wants, outlining a range of options that included new taxes on employer-provided health insurance and levies on sugar-sweetened drinks....
...A spokesman for the Washington, D.C.-based American Beverage Association said it’s unlikely there would be enough public support for an additional tax on soft drinks. Kevin Keane, a spokesman for the association, said the public would “see no logic in singling out one product to pay for health care when nearly all foods and beverages have calories. They just see it as a money grab.”

Everyone cheered when they jacked up the taxes on a legal product (cigs) by using the excuse of health concerns.

Now that the politicians saw how well that worked they will move on to something else.

I mean its a huge business. I mean the cartel run it and even grow some stuff here. If becomes legal: Less violence at the border, easier access to buy it/ grow it, and a tax haven for our government. I mean 75% of people dont smoke because they like it, more than half do because its illegal and their doing the 'BAD' thing. Dems and republicains are idiots. They cant agree on sh*t because their so affliated with a party. This wpnt end the war on drugs, but it'll help out a handful.
