OA15 Gets warm during 4 minute constant bass session

So. I have to buy a DMM, I don't have any other choice? I can't go to cartoys and ask them to set my amp correctly, or an audio shop? No other options besides actually buying one?
Why do you need to use a DMM?? You said you only have a problem with one song you have played and it seems the steady bass line is at tuning frequency. In the other thread we were discussing your port area and your plans were to build a bigger box and increase to port area. these 2 factors alone have more to do with your problem than the gain.

Do you really think that putting a sub in a appropriatly sized box would not only just bring out its harmonics but also help with keeping the sub cool and playing good?

:O:O:O:O:O::OO:

This. OP needs to get some cleaner music.
Glad I know that now, lol. I used to wail on my last sub with that song. Smellied up those coils, too, and it was rated for 1000 rms on the same amp as the OP is running at the same 2 ohm load.

As others have said, something is being clipped (head unit, amp, etc) or you are sending it more power than you think you are. Gain knob position is no way to get an indication of how much power is being put out from your amplifier. But if the particular problem is only happening on one song I would not use that song any more.

And if the dust cap is getting warm that coil is VERY warm!! There is a sealed cap on top of the former that keeps air from being trapped under the dust cap. No the cap isn't broken or bad - the tiny bit of former that is exposed beneath the former cap is getting that hot!

Yes, a proper box will make the sub sound awesome, and help cool it.

Yes, the song is awful and clipped. Your "Loudness" feature clips the hell out of everything. Turn it off. It's just really bad for your equipment. If it's not loud enough without it on, you need a better system.

Set your gains with a DMM. Buy a DMM. If you're into this hobby, you should have one. They cost like $15.

Gains at "55%" don't mean anything, I wouldn't be surprised if you're clipping it with that too.

1/2 the tards that comment are usually thinking way more in depth than what the issue really is. real question here is, how old is the sub? my brand new xfl's smelled all the time after every run in the lanes at the comps and the dust caps got a little warm. that was even after tuning with o-scope and termlab o-scope. i'd be willing to put money on it that the subs is still breaking in? if you are real worried, roll your windows down and let some air in to help cool off the subs and amp as well.

I've had the sub for about 4 months. It came used with around 10 hours of play on it, I think I've put around 50-75ish hours of bump on it..You really think its STILL breaking in?? I give it a workout sometimes..

And I always have my windows down, my AC doesn't work. But like I said, I'm not worried, it happens for only 1 song, and I'm not going to be bumping that song again, if anything find a 320kbps version, but not bump it hard. Thanks for all the responses!
