Novice Help

I'm new to these forums and new to car audio. I'm looking to help my friend install a new head unit, two ten inch subs + an amp in his 2001 Dodge 1500 Extended cab truck. Like I said I'm new so I just wanted to make sure that these components would work well together or at all. The only experience I've had is installing a head unit on a Honda Civic. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. I'm pretty confident on most of it, I really need help with the running the wire from the battery to the amp for the subs. If anybody could explain exactly what I need and how to do it for that part, that would be greatly appreciated.
