nothing like the smell of burnt voice coils in the morning

so i was on the way to school today and started smelling that sweet smell of burning subwoofer. it wasnt on for but maybe 5 minutes playing pretty loud, i have a fi q 18 running off a memphis pr 1000.1 any idea why it would being burningat recommended power? i mean it still sounds great but idk what to do, the amp isnt all the way up little over 3/4

Whats your voltage? Your probably clipping it. My SSA icons would get smelly off 750w each and there rated @ 1000w. I am pretty sure I was clipping them to.

A clipped signal is one that is distorting. Distortion being sent to the sub.

yes he has a problem. Maybe you should go talk to him about it and if that doesn't work maybe your parents need to know. Too much potential to waste away his life on drugs. O and next time set your gain with a DMM and you wont have any problems.....get john to help you he knows how

i just set it at what i thought was right, it goes like this

gain= around 3/4

db boost or soemthin like that= the same as gain around 3/4

low pass filter= 50 or 60

sub sonic filter= 30 to 35 maybe somehwere like 33

what's with the nubz talking about 3/4 gain. that means nothing.

either set the gain with a dmm and give us a number or measure the actual output of your RCA's and set the gain to match.

you are most likely clipping the amp and feeding the sub more than 1000wrms

Don't do boost and my gain was set at about half on mine.

ive tried talkin to him and it doesnt work, he either doesnt listin or has that attitude of a 13 year old girl and listins to what i say but says he knows it all and hell be fine with his own decisions, what is a dmm

dmm=digital multi meter
