SPLC Fails
My buddy has a Diyma R12, and he likes to go up to the mountain a lot. It was inevitable that after enough trips up there with his dumbass friends that the sub would get hurt. Sure enough, a ski went right throught the aluminum cone! So I found him another on this website, and took the sub into the ER room. Sorry for not taking before pictures, but the after pictures aren't much better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Given limited supplies and no money for a recone, a fresh bottle of Loctite superglue, and a roll of electrical tape, I went to work. Here's what I figured - I could tape the underside of the cone to fill in the gaps, then glue the front side. The glue would not pass through the large gaps because of the tape, and it would also stiffen the tape to about the level of the aluminum. Or so I thought...
To my great surprise, given how bad I felt for defiling such a nice sub, it turned out great! No leaks whatsoever, and it is only barely less supple than the aluminum. Obviously, it's not perfect, but it's close enough for my ears to not tell the difference! I was previously disheartened taking my Boston G5 out of the house to run it in the car because it sounded so nice, but now I have a new HT sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif This one sounds even better, and does better on the lows.
