Not the Pioneer DEH-80PRS

I'm looking to replace an old Alpine 7982 head unit. I keep coming back to the Pioneer DEH-80prs, but I'd like to put more budget into the rear speakers that I'm also replacing and less into the head unit.

I'm not running a sub, and wouldn't be splitting the mids/highs/lows like pioneer recommends, so I'm afraid I'd be wasting some of the potential.

I want to like the Alpine UTE-62BT, but I'm just not sure I'm going to get the sound quality and don't have the ability to audition to the two units.

Thoughts and or alternatives?

Go with 80prs just in case you decided to go with a sub later on

Head unit is the most important link in the chain imo. The Alpine units for 200 are good sounding units..

if you won't be running active then I wouldn't bother with the 80prs....

Sorry, not familar with the lingo. Is running active something to do with the triple crossover setup in the Pioneer?

how the heck do you display the bit rate on the screen on the 80prs? I couldn't figure it out.

hit the display button several times till the proper display shows up. Sometimes it'll say vbr which is variable bit rate aka crap. but with proper files it will actually display proper numbers

try a usb flash drive. I dont use apple products so idk how that works. CD doesnt show.

ya it works when I use USB. Garsh dangit. I have all my music on my iPod
