Do you think the amps will get too hot with the neons and the limited airflow around the amp?
Otherwise, looks real cool. One day, I may be able to do something like that
i got that covered //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

a fan for each amp

Like normal great work james...When i get home for thanks giving we have to meet up so you can finally hear the 18" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I knew I was in for a treat when I saw a thread made by James Bang. Sure enough, I wasn't let down and I'm acustomed to Mr. Bangs excellent work as usual. I expect nothing less from such a craftsmen.

Does it push or pull, I was wondering which is better?
both of the fans are pushing. For this application, i felt that pushing would be better because it'll supply the heat sink with more air flow. If the amp rack was sealed off or close to being sealed, i would have one fan push and one fan pull. The soundstream vga 1600.2's heatsink is concentrated on the top side of the amp (i guess it was meant to be mounted vertically) so i have a fan blowing at the top. And for the PPI pcx amp, there are fins and holes on the side of the amp, so a fan is blowing from the side of that amp.

So the amps and application will decide whether pushing or pulling would be better.

Thanks man.. hit me up when you do get back. I still haven't heard an 18" yet. I've seen Dante's, but didnt' get a chance to jump in and that a listen.

the kind words are really appreciated.

i noticed i forgot to post pics of the rest of the set up.

here's the memphis MCSYNC6s, ID NX-30, and AA 8"s, along with the 9835. the kick/door pods were bought from GCadidas13. cool guy. when I get my IDQ 8"s back, i'll probably take the pods out and sand and paint them.. if im not lazy.

How come you didnt do a IB with these IDMAX's?
man... i would love to do an IB setup. but that causes for a lot of work and sealing off. maybe someday because i heard they sound great IB. But going IB, I wouldn't need the 800wrms im throwing at them. I'm happy with them sealed @ 1.5 cubes each. I still find myself turning the subwoofer level down sometimes. I guess im not as into output as i use to be.

NICE!!
What type of paint and prep work did you use for the amp cover??

How do you like those Memphis comps??
for the amp cover, since it was hardboard and already smooth, i didn't use primer. I sprayed a coat of flat black paint, sanded it down with 600 grit, repeated steps 1&2, then applied a coat of clear protective enamel paint. I would have used a higher grit for the second coat, but 600 was the highest i could find at home depot.

As for the Memphis 6.5"s, I'm quite satisfied with them. They have pretty good midbass output being in the kick pods. i have them crossed over @ about 120hz(hard to tell on the amp knob) up to 1.8khz iirc, 18db slope. also i havent' heard many comp sets to compare them further, but i like 'em.
