NOT Light Dimming, But Excess Voltage?

Ok, but the only time this happens is when a lot of current is pulled by the amp, no other time. I don't think it is the alt regualtor, because wouldn't High RPM's affect that?

without a regulator an alt will put out 20 or so volts........

im going to take your advice and head to an autozone when i get home from school tomorrow....get the regulator checked, think its covered under warranty if i take it to where i got the car or you think doing things to the electrical (putting in system) voids it.

It's an electrical feature, it's not a physical piece.

I'm guessing its implanted in the car's computer to tell the alt "Don't charge over 14.4v" or something along those lines.

yea you are kinda right, some cars have the regulator in the alternator, some have a small external box regulator, some are built into the computer

just did a quick test....im doing 14.8 volts at idle, reved up to 3000 rpms and i got no jump up or down in voltage...this was with no HU in/ and no system on

so what about with it bumpin? I bet what you are seeing is the stock electrical system catching up, like the lights dim then it catches up and by that time the bass hit is over the system catches up and the lights get a lil brighter. If you in fact have a regulator problem inside the PCM you have to get a new PCM. DV I doubt you do, but kicker06 you may have a problem with the car being older. Also if you do in fact have a bad reg and its iinside your computer you can just bypass the computer and hook up an external regulator box.

im driving home today from school so ill post up what kinda voltage readouts im getting while im driving and listening to music.

14.8V isn't that high.

BTW I'm just going to do a yellow top and big 4 and see what happens.
