not enough power to amp

we're gonna need a LOT more info to piece this one together. give as much info as you can regarding the following:

what car, what year, and what alternator (if you know)?

what guage wire are you running for power and ground?

what model amp? you also haven't mentioned if you're referring to an amp for your interior speakers, or a subwoofer, or more???

what speakers, or subs are you running off the amp?

abe m.

I'm running two 300 watt sony xplod subs off of a 600 watt profile ca-600 amp. I've figured out what the deal was. The remote connection on the fuse side wasn't too good and the wire was too long so it had barely enough power to just make a loud pop every once and a while when i revved my engine. What i think i want to do is just jump the remote wire to the power wire, and install a swith in the middle of the remote wire so i can manually turn the amp on and off. Will that cause any problems, long term or short?

As long as your remote-in doesn't have any problem with more current, you'll be fine. That is of course, as long as you don't forget to turn off that amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ya it sounds good just dont leave the amp turned on. It wont drain a hell of alot at idle but it will more than likely about 2-4 amps depending on the class of the amp being used. But if it just so happens to be a true class a amp which I doubt then you would have to really worry about it because they draw full power all the time. Like my Premier amp, draws 20 amps at no power or full power.

Even better than a switch is to install a relay, using your remote wire from your HU as the trigger, and power from your battery as a common. This way, the amps always turn on when your HU turns on, and you never forget to turn it off.
