a prophet in a biblical sense is one that speaks on behalf of God and warns the people of impending doom in advance unless they change their ways.

Yeah....I was just clarifying that prophet, for this discussion, was using the definition w/o divine inspiration being a necessity

Misinterpretation......or rather, misapplication. The quantrain is vague enough to be construed in many fashions.

The Hister is a river, by the way. He never says "hitler", he says "Hister".

It's misinterpretations. Sure, you can use his predictions to after an event has happened but never before since they are so vague. His predictions carry as much weight as me saying "there will be a great natural disaster that will wreck tens of thousands of lives and destroy entire economies" or "a great man will be killed by his countrymen and cause turmoil for many generations." I bet you both will come true eventyally, but the claims are so broad and general that they can be applied to a myriad of events. Nostradamus has as much credibility as the horoscopes at the checkout counter at a grocery store.

If you leave something open ended enough, people are bound to find it's meaning for you.

Keep in mind, Nostradamus' quantrains have NEVER been used to predict the future....only to have events attributed to them AFTER the event has occurred. (that I am aware of atleast)
