noob wire harness questions =/

ok first time doing this so bare with me. I have some general solder exp. but my HU harness has these 3 specific wires with:

Brown Wire: Phone mute lead (connect to cellular phone mute lead)

Blue Wire: Auto Antenna Lead (connect it to the car power supply terminal for the antenna)

Blue White Wire: Amp turn-on lead (connect to remote turn-on lead of amplifier)

ok my question is how do I connect these? I've used solder on the other wires coming from the HU harness but these 3 have plastic covering with a terminal attatched. I pulled the plastic down on one of them to show what it looks like. Just curious is to how I connect them. I started and I would like to finish tonite lol

Thanks

thanks guys, it just threw me off that only those 3 had the special plastic & terminals lol.

another question...

I have all the necessary wires spliced and connected EXCEPT I have 2 yellow wires left on the HU harness. They are both connected to fuses

Yellow Wire (3A) : Bus Power Lead (connect directly to battery)

Yellow Wire (15A) : Memory Back-up Lead (connect directly to battery)

I only have 1 wire left on the aftermarket harness

Yellow Wire : 12 Volt Batt/Memory (12V Battery/Constant)

how would I go about connecting them? Both yellows on the HU to the 1 yellow on the aftermarket harness?

thanks

It's preferable not to use the battery power or ground from the OEM harness as they can tend to introduce noise into the system and typically are not the best for power and ground. Definitely ground the HU directly without using the OEm harness ground. You should run a wire direct to the battery for powering the HU, but if you don't have the time right now, I'd just use the yellow power wire in the harness and splice both HU wires into it. I'm not sure your make/model HU but that should be OK.

It's a Clarion DXZ785USB 6volt pre amp outlets.

so what size wire should I get to wire to the battery thru the firewall to the power? and should I connect both those wires from the clarion harness to the 1 wire coming from the battery? Ignoring the yellow wire from the aftermarket harness?

also same question goes for the ground, what type of wire and should I just run it to the chassis of the floor? I have a 92 mitsubishi 3000gt where it's required to run your own ground (to the radio chassis)

The fact is I have had two vehicles where this was is an issue and there have been many on this forum who have recommended NOT using OEM power or ground wires via the OEM harness.

I'm not saying you HAVE to do it...it is just a recommendation, at least with regards to the ground wire.

I used 12 gauge on both the power and the ground.

ok cool, so just to make sure I have this correct. Splice both the yellow wires from the HU harness and run them thru the firewall to the battery with 12 gauge wire and ignore the yellow wire from the aftermarket harness correct?

Yes, if you want to go through the hassle I think it would be best, but others may disagree. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Did you mention that both wires from the HU harness are already fused? I'm a big fan of using and it may be wise to place a 15AMP in-line fuse at the battery. Better safe than sorry. IMO.

correct the yellow wires from the clarion harness were already fused 15amp and 3amp. Thanks for the help I gotta hit up radio shack for some more wire now lol

Welcome to the club...you can never have enough wire! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I checked the manual on your HU (biggest friggin' manual I have encountered - 26 MB!) and if you are going directly to the battery for the power wire, definitely place a fuse within 30cm of the battery terminal.

lol yeah it's a pretty big manual. So a 15amp in-line fuse you suggest? something like this?
