...how would I go about Backstrapping my HU to avoid CD skipping during high SPL situations? is there a certain item I need to buy that is compatible with my particular head unit or what?

Did the headunit not come with a metal backstrap?

I can look in the box again...but only metal piece I recall is the cage

I ordered it from Sonic electronix and it came factory sealed and everything...new in the box...but I don't recall seeing any other metal pieces

at least your track selection knob doesnt turn but itself when your system isnt turned all the way up......that sux!

****....that's that bullshit right there....I don't know...my system isn't installed until this Friday on the 30th and I am tyring to avoid skipping...because without being backstrapped I imagine the skipping to be bad....

Panasonic CQ-8403u...HU is already installed...I had problems originally with skipping but I switched my burning program and upgraded the quality of my CD's and it went away because I had a cheap Wal-Mart system ( to me anything above stock is better then stock)....but I just sold that...and my new system is getting installed the 30th...so like I said...I haven't had any problems since switching the CDs and slowing my burn speed down....but my new system will be alot louder...soo....I don't know

Worst comes to worst I'll just buy one or order one of the internet...I did some searching they seem pretty easy to come by...but I know not the least bit about installing any piece of car audio equipment...so how in God's name do I attach this bastard to my HU

There should either be a post with a nut on the back of the HU's chassis or a spot where a screw/bol can be inserted.

so all I do is attach it to the HU itself...don't have to like hook it up to anything in the dash or anything?

Yes - one end of the strap attaches to the HU itself and the other end attaches above it behind your dash somewhere. (Yes, locating somewhere convenient is a hassle at times)
