do these things work at all? of course im going to do the big 3 and try and eliminate some noise and light diming. but will these help if i just add a few on certain areas just for the heck of it? also, i seen filters that you just wire up and others which connect to rca's. i assume the rca plug-in style filters are for connecting to the amps and NOT the HU ? not sure though. never used 'em before. just i seen 4 for $10 plus shipping so i was wondering if they were worth trying. if they dont help much at all, i wont bother. anyone use these things or have any thoughts? thx!

oh yeah, sorry. well i believe its just engine whine, maybe alternator, everytime i speed up it gets a little louder. do you think the big3 will help minimize this? also, it sucks when the radio is on, coz you can here it well since i dont crank up the radio volume. but when i thump the bass, you cant hear it, haha! when the engine is off, no whine.

what do ya think?

Its alt whine, reground your HU and amps, HU to battery may be a feasible option. If you can absolutely not deal with it or correct it (which you can) you get get a ground loop isolator, your problem will be that it completely cuts down on a ton of bass that you will definetly miss. A few years ago I got one becaue I was lazy, was very happy with iton. Finally took it off a few months later and couldn't believe how much better it sounded without it, even with a little whine. I then regrounded everything and was golden.

Are you using an external amp for your interior speakers? Because, so far it definitely sounds like alt whine, which typically means that you need to better ground either your HU or the amp for the interior speakers.

And no, if this is alt whine, the big 3 have absolutely nothing to do with it. Upgrading the big 3 will not solve the noise issue.

alternator whine is mostly caused by a poor ground for the HU. NEVER use the ground on the factory wiring connection, its a small wire and runs a far distance to get to the grounding point. I always run the ground to the chassis as close to the HU as possible. Also, check to make sure the ground of the rca outputs on the rear of the HU have a direct short with the HU using a DMM. If it doesn't, running a small wire from the RCA outputs to the HU chassis will clean up the sound. If this still doesn't work then you will probably need a ground loop isolator. I don't use them and never will, but if all else fails do what you have to.

yeah squeak9798, i have a probe and they have an internal amp to run the rear speakers, not sure if all 4. i think the dealer by-passed that amp though. never took it out. its just there unhooked im certain. i bought an external amp for the 4 speakers but didnt hook it up yet. i was getting noise even with only the bass amps i have. oh, so the big3 wouldnt help. is the big3 more for dimming and soild grounding/ better power?

also, just for fun. i took some short pieces of speaker wire and attached them to those screws on the side of the HU, and when i touch a metal point near the deck, off then on, you can hear the whine decreases but doesnt entirely go away. when i untouch the wire from the metal , it goes back to normal again. i think my HU is grounded using the car's existing black ground wire. i'll ahve to remount it another place. where on the chassis is a good place? go right to the battery direct or is that not safe? or run it back to the trunk where my amps are grounded? i heard that its a good idea to use the same point? dunno?

thx!
