Noise Problems

To everyone that has anymore ideas,

Here's what I have:

Stock Bose HU has 2 low level outputs that I soldered rca's onto

Rca's go into an Audiocontrol EQS...front/front rear/sub

From eqs goes into fosgate 4 chan set for 2 inputs and fosgate 2 channel

4 channel is running set of rnbw germs and 2 chan is running 2 infinity10dvq

running 4g from battery into 1f capacitor

grounds for amps and cap are running into capacitor back to battery.

My noise is alternator whine and just noise. With only music on, no noise....with car on a lot of noise...if I trun my stereo up to a bout a medium volume i cant hear it any more. Also if i unplug the rca's at the eq and touch the outside of the rca to the outside of the input of the eq's rca..noise gets much louder.

Here's what I have done...

Bypassed the eqs and ran the rca's straight to the amp, noise gets louder.

unplugged ALL the rca's...still noise but gets less.

unplug the eqs so it gets no power...still noise

ran the ground from the EQS to the battery, still the same amount of noise if its grounded at the battery or at the grounding point 2" from eq.

grounded rca's before the eqs..no change

run different rcas from the eq to amps...no change

turned off one amp and switched inputs to other to isolate if amp problem...no change in noise

Only thing I can figure left is to ground my headunit. But since it's a stock headunit with what looks like speaker wires coming out of it, How do I ground the HU?? There is no actual RCA's in the back and since I have disconnected the rca's from the headunit and there is still noise...how can this be a headunit problem? Amps are being grounded at the battery so I can't believe it to be an amp problem....

Please give some ideas???

try taking the ground of the head unit, removing it from the stock wiring harness and grounding it to a solid ground point,,, or even the battery. Also do the same with the power from the headunit.. Bypass the stock wiring harness and try running direct to battery..

Dont know about results,, but would be my next step.

ran a ground from head unit to battery...no change..

just noticed if I move the Rca inputs at the front amp, wiggle them while they are connected, I get popping and big differences in noise. Sometimes it goes quite if I hold it a certain way and very loud if I leave it alone.

Also, when trying to set gains using DMM...not even to max potential of amp, I hear a strange buzzing noise coming out of amp every time I increase/decrease gain. And stays humming when after it is set....this is problably the cause of all my problems.

Now do I have a bad amp input? Where would I go to get this fixed?

sounds like a possibility! you seem to have tried almost everything, and you did try diff rca's right?

Is amp under warranty? if not,, find a good ca shop or electrical shop and have them check it out.. They should be able to fix it.. Ca shop will try to sell you a new amp first though.

Yep tried other rca's already..2 different sets...and while I was putting on the second set that's when I noticed the bad RCA connector at the amp...

Nope not under warranty..it's a 2001 RF Power 800.4, I am the original owner. Might have worn down the inputs over all the installs the amp has been through. I Don't know. Well I'm going to have it looked at now, no other choice.

Thanks for your help

Still getting alt whine. Had a friend look at amp and found the inputs of the amp had a cracked solder. He redid it but caused more harm than good. Now when I step on the brakes, I get a pulse of noise, and any little bump sends pops into my speaks. Im just going to send it out and have it fixed right.

Replaced the amp with another and still getting engine whine though. I took out the HU completly and started the car...still get engine whine. Built some shortening rca's put it everywhere and still get noise....Now if I touch the inputs of the eq the noise gets much worse(with my fingers)

WHat the heck is going on?

tryin eliminating your bose source, plug an ipod or something directly into the amp and see if you have noise... ?

also, the ground seems a bit long, no? it goes to the cap and back to the batt? try shortening it and grabbing a good solid frame ground...

I've tried grounding approx. 6" from amp..and all the way to the battery...no change

Also, I have taken out the whole bose hu. There is no hu at all. still getting alt whine. Since I have taken out my 4 channel to get repaired I still notice a very faint noise. coming throuhg speakers even without an amp

FOUND IT!!

Stupid speaker wire was getting pinched in the door jam pretty bad causing a short next to the molex connector. I FINALLY get to enjoy my GERMS!! God they sound great....blow the SLC's Kicks away.

Man took 4 days to figure this stuff out...unhooking the HU...eq...switching amps around...taking amps out...switching out rca's....rewiring everything (except the speaks). And it ends up being a dang kink in a speaker wire....and I thought I was very careful on the install.....oh well live and learn...everything's good now.
