IF it won't accept 64bit when your hardware is... maybe your Operating System isn't 64bit.

Also, if real time system protection causes a freeze up, i would be looking for the following-

Confliction with other protection software, hard drive scan for bad sectors, not enough memory to perform task, or something else is causing a problem and maxing out the cpu usage.

I suggest you take it back and get Kaspersky anti-virus protection. I paid a little more, I think 50 smacks for it, but has worked like a gem! It works flawlessly. I suggest it to anyone and trust me I was having mondo trouble with AVG and then tried a couple other free ones and said to hell with it and bought this and for the last half a year my computer has worked better than ever.
