No such thing as a 200 amp alternator

lawl.... called a bunch of local shops just for the hell of it to see what kind of prices I can get for a 200 amp alternator. Two of the five people told me there is no such thing as a 200 amp alternator that will fit in a car. I told the guy for car audio applications that they are widely used and he told me you just get another battery. I told him I knew some companies online that would make it for me, he said they're bullshitting me and that he will pay me money to see a 200 amp alternator fit in my car without any modifications to make it fit.

I think I'm going to purchase a 200 amp alternator from Nate @ Excessive Amperage... he's been really nice, and I would like to have it for the competition on Sunday that I'm going to.

He knocked a lot of money off the price (ROE group buy) and said he could rush it, ship it out Thursday and have it to me on Friday //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Then I'll be stopping at the alternator shop to pickup some money, haha

I would read on excessive amoperage before taking the plunge...dont know if you heard the horror stories. Personally, If I were to get one, the only place I would look at is Ohio generator. Expensive, but quality.

O BTW, I got the same responses from local shops as well. 'Just get a new battery" "A higher amperage alternator will do nothing for you" Lolercoaster...

You should give us the numbers to these shops so we can all call them and luagh at them and tell them just how car audio illeterate that they are....no such thing as a 200 amp alt that will fit in a car....please....

I could understand if he meant that there is no such thing as a 200 amp alternator that will fit YOUR car without modifications done to fit it.

Other than that the guy is an idiot and any installer with half a brain knows that another battery won't get you anywhere except for when the car is off and even then it is advised to get a HO alternator before you buy a 2nd battery.

When your car is on it takes pretty much from teh alternator and batteries but when the battery starts to loose it's charge is when the alternator takes over and charges the batt.

Think about it....you can install a bank of batteries but what good is that bank of batteries if there is no way to fully re charge those batteries when they get drained....

HO alt for the win and no HO alt and an extra batt ftl.

He specifically said that there is no such thing as a 200 amp alternator for a car or truck, only "big rigs" have something close to a 200 amp alternator.

Nathan from Excessive seems like a great guy, is close to Florida and does a lot of stuff with FloridaSPL.com, a lot of Florida members use him.

you are right to a degree and wrong. lets say you have a 200 amp alt with a system that can pull 380 amps. at idle you crank up the system where does your "extra" power come from? being at idle your 200 amp alt is maybe doing 120-140 amps tops not to mention whatever the car needs. go look at db drags sometime most of the classes you cant even have your engine on (especially indoors). i say do a mix a bigger alt never hurts as haveing enough reserve even if the car is on. if the load of the second battery isnt too great and you dont "crank" the system all the time then sometimes an extra battery is all you need but FLAT out depends how you use it.

You are right and I should have mentioned that point but I was explaining from a DD setup point of view and not a competition P.O.V.

daily driver or not i see people talking about running 2.5-5k watt amps on a 220 amp alt all the time regardless how you cut it you can get away with a little but in GOOD theory id have a good/better battery and bigger alt before i went nuclear with my amps. takes more power to make musical power....not insulting anyone or trying to but this is a good rule of thumb to have
