no sound out of speakers

i have my hdmi cable from my ps3 to my reciever. and another from my reciever to my tv. the speakers hiss like they are getting a signal, but there is no sound. any ideas?

what kind of cable is going from the receiver to the tv

it is also an hdmi cable. i tried using rcas and i still get no sound.

Very late reply but I would wager you have to assign the inputs.

What receiver is it?
