No sound from speakers, but HU is on

Driving a 91' mazda 626, and am new to the car audio scene.

Here's the rundown.

Installed some new speakers into my car, both front and rear replacements for the factory (blown) speakers. At the same time I installed a new head unit. I had to wire the power and speakers to the head unit, in this manner Wiring described.

The connections were made by hand, ie stripping of the wire and then twisting of the wire together followed by insulating by electrical tape. Confident that these were done well. The antenna is connected to the head unit. The ground is secure, and connected.

The wire is the original wire in the car, and It was not replaced by me.

All the positive and negative leads are correct (pretty sure). And I'm positive that the rear speakers are well connected.

Fuses seem to be in order, also the fuse in the head unit.

The issue is when I start the car the head unit will turn on and seem to be in working order, while no sound will emit from the speakers at all. No buzzing noise, dead air etc, simply no sound.

The head unit is 50w peak, and 18w*4RMS, and the speakers are within that range. (New HU and speakers)

--One note is that it is raining when I installed this. The previous radio had a similar issue where the speakers would make no sound while the head unit would function after rainy days and the like. However, the previous radio and speakers would emit a single 'pop' (electrical sounding) upon power on, changing of headlight levels, and signaling.

About ready to find babies to punch in an effort to get this working! Any help appreciated.

well first off your connections for your wires ****. you should never twist them together and secure with electrical tape. thats like using wire nuts. if i were you i would rewire your speakers. i would run new wire from your headunit to all your speakers with no breaks in the wire. either do that or get real connectors like butt connectors and redo your wiring job. the more breaks you have in your wire the more resistance your power has to travel to. is all your controls on your HU working properly? also the guy whose wiring diagram you followed may not be correct. he said that he might not know. best thing to do is get power going to your HU first (which you already have) than i would run all new wires to your speakers ensuring that you know exactly what goes where.

that aint right, you have blue/white on there for accesory, left front speaker, right rear speaker. you also have blue/red on there for battery, right front speaker, left rear speaker. how the hell do you have battery power and the same wires going to three different things, might want to re-think that one.

take a 9 volt battery to the speaker wires. ( + speaker wire to the + batt terminal, - speaker wire to the - batt terminal) if the speaker pops then you know you have the correct speaker wires. if the speaker does not pop, you either have the wrong set of speaker wires OR there is a factory amp.

to the above, im not giving you specifics as if i checked im telling you what audiovox stated its given as is not tested thanks...

this is a 93 626 maybe this helps
