I have a dodge intrepid with the infinity sound system it came with.
The 5 1/4 inch door speakers are 8ohms each paralleled into one channel in the stock infinity amp, giving it a 4ohm load. The driver side speaker had a rip in the surround, so I glued it shut. Not a week later, today as I pulled into the parking lot at work, I heard loud crackling sounds coming from the speaker. I took it out right there and push/pulled the cone in and out and there was definitely some rubbing or scratching from within. I'm guessing the voice coil is funked, and I don't know how to repair that.
Are there still 8ohm 5 1/4in speakers out there? I can't find any. They're all 2 and 4 ohm.
I just want to plug and play. I could get a pair of 2ohm speakers and series them but running a wire from one door to the other is not an option.
