I'm about to bite the bullet on some gear. Iv always wanted to use a laptop or notebook as a head unit and want to use the audison bit One to run everything..

Is the Bit1 the cats meow when no HU is used ?

Is a old fogie like me going to be able to tune it if the last system I installed was a concord to epicenter precision power and RF?

Unless you left out your experience of tuning home/commercial audio DSPs, no. Sorry, I can't sugar coat it. Audison has a setup for authorized dealers that can greatly speed up tuning time, but if you don't have a local Audison dealer you have to tune it yourself with a laptop computer. You need an RTA to properly tune a DSP such as Bitone in a timely manner, but a compatible laptop is the bare minimum needed to get it going.

How did you narrow your numerous options down to Bitone?

My closest dealer is 60 miles so that's a possibility.

I narrowed it down because of the optical inputs and how clean the system is said to be when used. The remote would work well with a tablet.

I dunno... its expensive and must be world class?

Optical is fine as it will not have any noise, and I agree that the Bitone dash controller would be nice to have. Bitone is a proven DSP that's been around a relatively long time. With good dealer support it should serve you well.
