Newb with possible config, want advice

I'm about to start investing in a sound system, and I want to get the most bang for my buck (we starving college kids can't afford everything, sigh).

I'm thinking about investing 300~400 in the first expansion, and I'm leaning towards getting:

2 Tweeters

1 Amp (and an install kit)

1 10" Sub (efficient)(in a custom sub enclosure)

Line level adapter (to convert the rear speaker signal into RCA to feed the amp)

This is just the first purchase, I'll get a new head unit and speakers later.

I'll really appreciate any suggestions because I don't want to make any foolish purchasing mistakes my first time out.

BTW I'm looking for an SQ-SQL system, but I definitely like my oomph.

I'm in a Range Rover, and I plan to eventually buy a second sub as well (same size ~10")
