newb wiring help

Hey guys. I am planning on wiring some 6x9s tomorrow and have a question. Firstly there are 6x9s wired up right now, but kind of ghetto with some SUPER thin speaker wire soldered to my stock wires. I want to buy some stock size wire then use a butt splice to connect it to my stock wires. also the connectors for the speakers themselves, Are they called Slide connectors? They are just male/female correct? Also did my 91 caprice come with 18 or 16 gauge wire? I am just trying to give it a cleaner look, the wiring right now looks pretty ghetto.

Are you talking about the spade terminals?

The stock wiring is most likely 18 gauge, but 16 is possible, but you probably won't get an exact size match. get the heat shrink butt connectors if it's in a door, the small wire doesn't stay in the normal ones well because the door will pull them out.
