Newb..HIGH'S are killing me!! HELP!!

I just had Infinity Ref components installed. Powered by a Rockfor 501x amp with a factory head unit. The HIGHS are overpowering. I can barely turn up the volume before the sound hurts my ears...in an unpleasant way. Could it be the gain on the amp? Or is it a case of setting the speakers crossover differently.? Last guess, the HP/LP filter on the amp? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've turned down the gain and also turned off the treble completely on the factory h/u that I'm runnning. It 's made a difference but not enough. Adjusting the crossovers is next. If that fails, I might have to install the MB Quart RCE216's that I was going to sell!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

well just so you know ive owned both of those component systems and the mb quarts really didn't seem any less harsh to me when I ran them
Thanks. I have heard the same thing today from some other people. Any other suggestions for comps in the similar price range...$150.
