Whats up. Im going to try to install my first amp+sub tomorrow and I need a little help. When I get the radio out and hook up the REM wire will it be connected to anything else? Or is it a wire built for aftermarket amps. My amp kit came with a 22-18 garred butt connector. Is that what I use? Just connect the REM to one end and blue wire supplied in the kit to the other end and then to the amp? Also my kit didnt come with speaker wires and Im pretty sure I have to get 12ga wire but I just want to make sure.

My setup

Rockford P600.1

Kicker L5 12 600rms

You will hook up the remote wire coming out of the deck to the remote wire supplied in the kit and then run that wire to the amp using the butt connector if neccasary depending on what kind of connections your amp has . As for the speaker wires , 12 gauge for the subs is just fine .

What I'm saying is. The REM wire coming from the cd player going to be connected to anything else or is specifically for hooking up amps. Will i have to splice the wire?

Another ? Will I even need wire crimpers or can I just use pliers. Seems to me all the crimper does is smash the wire and terminals together.

sorry i have to join in,

1. circuit city is probably the worst place to get your stuff installed

2. the remote wire on the back of the h/u can be hooked to other things like the factory amplifiers(if applicable), power antenna(depending on the model of the h/u this can be a separate wire(blue))

3. the wire you need is either blue w/white stripe or solid blue if it has a blue w/white use it

4. do not use butt connectors, they expose wire real easily if not properly done, wire nuts unscrew and fall off, i use crimp caps they have one connection and are hard to screw up, and if you get them tight enough they dont fall off

hope this helps
