New TV

It's not gonna happen. Don't get it?!?!?!
What wall is he gonna put it on. Not to mention how fucking loud they are... that's the reason he wants to get rid of it anyways.

Make a screen for $20 you lazy bastards. The new ones aren't that loud.

You guys may be audio HFC, but you're video pussies. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

So why should I get a projector? Because I don't have anywhere to put it, i don't have room for a screen, and the 3 TV's i'm looking at look much better? Is that about right? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Sounds about right to me...

99% of houses/apartments don't have an appropriate room for a projector

you pretty much need to design a room specifically for that purpose

you need a way to control ambient lighting, and of course an unobstructed path for the projector, and a seating position that's just as far from the screen as the projector for the best light reflection back to your eyes with the least amount of distortion, which is why the loudness of a projector is an issue, since ideally you'd be sitting directly above/below it

if you can set one up PROPERLY in a light controlled room, there's nothing like them, period, but the low (comparitively) initial cost of a projector is quickly overshadowed by install costs if you want to do it properly, not to mention the bulbs can cost $400-600, and only last 2-3 thousand hours.

And a GOOD screen costs in the thousands as well.

I'm personally, a projector BUFF, i would LOVE to have one, some day.... But you have to keep in mind there's a difference between simply buying a projector, and having an appropriate installation for it to be displayed correctly. Kinda like buying a $1600 solox 18" without taking into consideration the space and power requirements.

Sounds like B&W's being pretty reasonable on his screen-size requirements, and while a projector's an awesome way to go, it's really not very practical for most houses/budgets/screen size requirements, let alone NEEDS........

Sounds like you're up the right alley with the Elite. A friend of mine has an old elite setup from the crt-rear projection days that still looks just as good as most of the non-hd stuff out there even today. They don't slap the 'elite' sticker on anything less than brilliant.

Computer monitor as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif seriously though the HD channels are sick

For a rear projection, the sony sxrd are awesome. And for plasma (havent looked into it in a while) pioneer elite seems to be the leader. Sony really only makes good non tube tvs and cameras, and maybe laptops. Since they stopped making the super fine pitch tubes, their tube tvs ****.

That Elite is a pretty fancey TV. I just don't know about the $3500 for the one I'm looking at.... I know I would not regret it, but $3500 is a lot......
I know i would. for something that entertains me about 1 hour per day? ouch!

if it really is a viable option for a computer monitor, that may make the blow a little softer, but they arent THAT sharp are they?

plus imagine the computer you coul d buy for 3500$, and that entertains me or i am force to be on it ALOT everyday.

their sxrd units are really nice, no doubt.

panasonic rules the plasma world these days. the pioneer elite is nice, but is always outdone by someone else shortly following.

sony actually makes the best CRT tv still on the market today (not many left). HERE

not endosing sony by any means...
