1986 Monte Carlo SS
Let me introduce my self, my name is scott and i live and Maryland. I drive a 1986 Monte Carlo SS(http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2049775) which my Dad bought last year for me to drive when i got my lisence. I have had my lisence 6 months now and I am starting to mod my car. I am purchasing Headers and a high flow cat this week sometime and want to finish my stereo next.

The car already has Pioneer 4" x 10" Rear Deck Mount Speakers in the back and Pioneer 3.5" Custom Fit 2 Way Speakers in the front. It also has a Dual XD6210(sucky or so i am told, Doesnt bother me at the moment though.). These components were installed by one of the previous owners. WHat i want to do next is get a sub(s?) and a amp(s?)to clean up the sound of the system.

I dont want to add hundreds of pounds to my car because performance and gas mileage is very important to me. Also my interior is in awsome shape and i do not want to ruin it.

So this is what i am wondering, i am thinking about going with pioneer for a sub(1 or 2?) and a amp(1 or 2?). Should I add more speakers up front also? Kick panels require me to bend the parking brake and relocate the computer so they might become a issue, But i might consider them if they will help the sound greatly.

So do i go with a 4-Channel Amp for the speakers in the car and a Mono-Amp for the sub(1 or 2?). How many subs should i run and what size, and What else is there to get besides wiring?

I listen to many different types of music, Techno, rock, metal, classic rock, alternative, ect. I am not a big rap person though.

Sorry for such a long thread //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Ok subwise it sounds like you dont want a load of bass but you want to hear it. So if I were you Id either get one nice 12 or maybe 2 decent 10s. Either way buy a mono. You would prolly want a sealed enclosure if you like techno and classical and such. And if I were you I would either just replace the front speakers or leave em alone because rewiring a car isnt fun and could become an issue. Also think about getting a decent HU because stocks are crap compared to aftermarket (especially in a 198* monte carlo(no offense).

It also has a Dual XD6210(sucky or so i am told, Doesnt bother me at the moment though.).

hrm Thank you for clearing the thing about the mono amp.

Oh my bad I missed that. Well I guess thats one less thing to get lol.
Yup. I know this is probly a given but if i can get 2 10" pioneers for 220 USD or 2 12" subs for 260 which would be better? And Would 2 12" subs require a fancier amp to be used to its full potental?

Its tempting to spend a little more to get bigger subs. But when you buy bigger subs they require a bigger RMS and max output. And the more power you need the bigger the amp you need. And if you got the money it probably isnt a problem. Amps can get real expensive real fast. So yea you would need a better amp (usually) but you can always shop for subs for lower power ratings. I believe that Dual takes 325 rms. So you could buy 2 150 watt rms subs and be fine. Just rememebr its easier to damage a sub by underpowering it than overpowering it.

Thanks for the advice. I guess since i am not looking to build a super kick *** system, i will go with what you said at first.

Which out of the two is better,

or

2 of these http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4059_153020668,00.html

i know someone who can help you out with the performance and the stereo...
how much did your dad get your car for?
5g's over paid some but we didnt find alot of the problems until later on.

They wouldnt have schools for this stuff if you could plug it in like a toaster.
I have a decent electronics background but i am not down with all the Stereo stuff yet, so i am here to learn //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Yea Id make sure to go get some advice from an installer before you go off buying. I learned 100s of things just shopping for equipment that if you dont watch for, could jack your system up if you dont do it right. They wouldnt have schools for this stuff if you could plug it in like a toaster.

A simple way to explain it is that your going to have either 12" of cone space or 20" of cone space. If you want more bass take the 2 10s. But make sure to take your time shopping for this stuff.
