New to wireless internet. I got questions.

OK, heres the deal. I just ordered a new laptop and wireless router.

I am on a cable modem with my desktop.

The whole wireless is new to me. I am not dumb when it comes to computers, I just have not been around the wireless bit yet.

Here are a few questions I have.

With a router, do I need to get a wireless cable modem?

I want to be able to use my desktop and laptop at he same time on the net. My desktop does not have a wireless network card. the laptop will.

What do I do to keep others from "stealing" my signal. I am paying for INTERNET service, I don't want anyone catching a free ride off me.

I see people taking there lap tops around and connecting to the INTERNET. How does that work? Like around Schools and malls, etc. Is that the same as what I'm talking about above "stealing'?

My printer is hooked to my desktop. Can I print from my laptop to that printer? If so, how.

Thats a few questions for now. I will probably have more later. I wont get my laptop till next week sometime anyway.

No you can hard wire your computer to your router

you can enable the security to prevent others from stealing it

sort of, some places have wireless access points for free such as starbucks, mcdonalds, and many more.

I don't have wireless internet. I have Cable and am going to use a wireless router. I'm going to network my two computers. One is a desktop.

what speed u getting? i get 4meg up and about .5 meg down for 2 bux more thats going up to 7 meg down and i think 2 meg up in a month or so
