here is the situation: i have installed a pioneer hu and pioneer 6.5's and 6x8's in a 94 ford probe. next step is sub and amp. i am planning on upgrading the big 3, due much in part to the stuff i have read on here. so, my question: are a capactior and a fuse both necessary for the following sub/amp setup........

mtx 10" sub - 200rms

mtx amp at 200-300 watts peak.

if they are needed i will do it, but caps are so **** expensive. but, cant half @ss the electrical i guess!

If the 2 to 300 watt amp and the head unit are the only things with any appreciable current draw outside of the normal, daily needs of the car (engine computer doing its thing, headlights, etc etc) you shouldn't even need the 'Big 3' upgrade to cover the current usage of the audio gear.

That's not to say that you shouldn't upgrade the 'Big 3'....it can't hurt and if you plan to expand your system further at some future point that's one step that will be out of the way already....but like iamamp3pimp already posted, the simple answer to your question is: No. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But a fuse is needed/necessary. As close to the battery as possible. It will keep your car from going up in flames in the event of a major short.

Cap is NO!

Yeah what he said . The fuse in the power wire is more of a protection for your car itself, not the amp(s). Most amps have fuses built into them now a days. But if the power wire shorts, and you have no fuse. It's gonna get ugly and stinky very fast //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
