New subs

Ive had my subs playing for about 1 week now. I should have posted this before but this is my first system. Do subs take time to get "broken into" . What can i do to speed this process up? I read somewhere to leave my subs play on low power for hours or like all night to do this. Also are there any precautions i should take so that i dont damage my speakers? one last questions, does all this cold weather have any affect on my subs or amp?

do you have to break in subs? from what i hear your not supposed to go out and crank em right away just play em on low and build it up.

does the cold affect them? yes
